Why helloooooooo there sexy green smoothie <—— never thought I would call a smoothie sexy before.

But this green toddler smoothie is where it is AT!

For your toddler.
For you.
For you and your toddler.

This recipe makes enough so you can enjoy it with your toddler. Just imagine – both of you sitting side by side on the front porch, quietly drinking your morning smoothies – fueling up with good-for-you spinach, cucumber, apple and banana while getting a little sun on your arms! Your toddler isn’t having a tantrum, they aren’t whining about what they want to watch on youtube and they haven’t even spilled their smoothie yet. Just you and your kiddo getting a healthy green start to the day. Ahhh…! So amazing! Can you feel it – the peace this smoothie gives you?

Oh wait.. back to reality.

If you follow me on Instagram then you know I make a ton of different smoothie combinations for both Ellie and myself for breakfast. Actually, I make them for myself and Ellie just always ends up stealing them from me. Almost makes me mad, but then I remind myself that he is consuming a ton of fruit and vegetables alongside her breakfast. So I get over it and now make a recipe and half of everything I blend.

And while I hardly ever measure ingredients when I make these smoothies, this one is my go too green smoothie base, so I have it down pat.

The perfect green smoothie for even the pickiesttoddler (or parent:).

It is thick, rich and bursting with flavor, and I mean good flavor here, not flavorin the dense-green-spinach-or-kale sorta way. We all want our smoothies to be chalk-fullwith the nutrients of those greens but seldom do wewant to taste them at 7:30 in the morning.

This smoothie gets it’s sweetness from the appleand the pineapple, it’s thickness from the banana and the hemp seeds and it’s freshness from the cucumber and spinach. It is full of fiber, protein, calcium, iron and will keep you full all morning.

One of the tricks I use to get more flavor and nutrients in my toddler smoothies, is that I don’t usually use ice.

I find that ice, dilutes the taste of the smoothie and waters it down.

Instead, I like to use frozen produce – spinach, pineapple and even banana in thisrecipe. Frozen berries, kiwi, chopped carrots, cherries, kaleand even sliced apples all make great frozenadditions in other smoothie recipes.

Sometimes I forgot to freeze my brown bananas the night before, or I ran out of frozen spinach and had to use fresh instead, not too worry, this smoothie will still turn out deliciousif you don’t have any frozen ingredients on hand. Just add a small amount of ice until it is cold enough but not watered down.

My rule of thumb is that I try to use 2-3 frozen ingredients instead of ice. I find that gives the smoothie enough chill-power while not making it too thick.

Optional Add-ins for this Toddler Green Smoothie Recipe

But the best part of this recipes is that you can add in any extras of your choosing. You can add some chia seeds or flax seeds for extra omega-3’s. You can add some shredded coconut for a tropical flare. You can even add some oats for some extra fueling power.

It can really be adjusted to your toddlers tastes, dietary restrictions or what you have on hand.

So have at it! Set forth and blend!

  • 1 tbsp shredded coconut
  • 1/2 tsp of chia or flax seeds

  • pear instead of apple

  • 1 kiwi – fresh or frozen

  • 2-3 pitted dates (instead of honey)

  • small handful of cashews

Ingredients

  • 1-2 cups milk cow, nut, coconut, hemp, etc.
  • 1/2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1/2 apple peeled and cored
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 cups pineapple
  • 1-2 cups frozen spinach or kale
  • 1 tbsp honey

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients into the blender in the order listed. Hit the smoothie button on your Blendtec or blend for 1-2 minutes or until you have reached your desired smoothie consistency.

  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • I use more liquid in my smoothies so my toddler can suck it through her small straw without too much difficulty. If you like a thicker smoothie, start by using 1 cup and add more liquid from there.
  • I like to use frozen pineapple and spinach instead of ice in my smoothies, but you can definitely use fresh if you have them on hand. Also, frozen bananas are a great way to add some extra creamy goodness to your smoothies.
