    Important overtime rule to note

Kansas City executed a 13-play, 73 yard touchdown drive when Mahomes threw a three-yard pass to wide receiver Mecole Hardman for the win.

Prior to the game-sealing play, CBS commentators Jim Nantz and Tony Romo made remarks about the clock getting closer and closer to hitting triple zeroes.

The overtime began with 15 minutes on the clock however, the game would've continued if time expired.

Referee Bill Vinovich told both teams and TV viewers that overtime is the start of a "new game."

The Chiefs' first overtime possession would've continued if the clock had expired, and a new overtime quarter would've started.

Those are different rules compared to the regular season when the Chiefs would've had to score points to either tie or win before the end of overtime.
