And this is the part most people miss... Just as they were rebuilding, Hurricane Ida struck in 2021, flooding their New York City apartment and causing extensive damage. “We had just finished renovating,” Rachael explained to People magazine. “And then, Ida took it all away.”
But the story doesn't end there. As if the natural disasters weren't enough, a remediation team sent to help caused further damage, flooding the entire building from the sixth floor down to the first.
“Tell me you wouldn't feel kicked down when you're already down,” Rachael said. Yet, she remained resilient, acknowledging the silver linings: “I'm alive, I have a roof over my head, and I still have my job.”
